Great Budget Radar, But Preset Lofts Don’t Match Modern Irons

The Shot Scope LM1 is an easy recommendation if you want a simple, portable Doppler launch monitor without a subscription. Setup is about as painless as it gets: place it roughly 4–5 feet behind the ball, pick a mode (Practice, On Course, or Speed Training), select a club, and hit. Club speed, ball speed, smash factor, carry, and total distance show up instantly on the 3.5-inch screen. Data syncs to the free Shot Scope app, where you can review sessions by club. For the price, the core speed numbers are useful, and the dedicated speed-training mode is a nice extra.Where it falls short for me is how club selection works.The LM1 does not measure launch angle or spin. It measures speed and then estimates ball flight from the club you selected. That means the preset loft assigned to each club is part of the calculation. Those lofts are fixed. You cannot edit them to match the clubs actually in your bag.That is a problem with modern game-improvement irons. I play Ping G730s, which are strongly lofted. When I want to log pitching-wedge shots, I have to select PW on the LM1. The device assumes a traditional ~46° pitching wedge. My G730 PW is 40° — a six-degree difference. Six degrees is not a rounding error. It is closer to treating a 40° club like a 9-iron than like a classic PW. The same mismatch runs through the rest of the set: labels like 7-iron, 8-iron, and PW no longer describe the same launch/spin window they did 15 years ago.So even if ball speed is close, carry and total can drift because the model is flying the wrong club. App history then stores those shots under the wrong club identity as well. If you use Shot Scope for gapping or on-course club advice, that compounds.Shot Scope includes a loft card and tells you to pick the closest club. That is a workaround, not a solution. Closest label still files the shot under the wrong name, and it still uses the wrong assumed loft. What I want is simple: custom loft per club, or at least the ability to assign actual degrees to Driver, 5-iron, PW, UW, and so on. Golfers already know their lofts. The device should let us enter them.Until that exists, the LM1 is still worthwhile for ball-speed trends, smash factor, and raw speed work. I would just treat carry numbers with extra skepticism on strong-lofted irons and wedges, and I would not treat the app’s club-by-club averages as gospel unless the selected loft actually matches the head.Verdict: Excellent value and very easy to use. Needs editable club lofts before it can accurately represent modern sets like the Ping G730. Battery Life is poor at only 4 hours.

I bought this and thought it was a good deal, after hitting with it for a few weeks I thought I was striking the ball great and getting big numbers, come to find out the yardage it measures is not accurate at all, it is way further than I was actually hitting it, needless to say I quit using it right away.

I had to return this after 3 uses. Battery lasted like 2 hours. It froze up on me and I had to restart it. It was showing my club speed at over 200+ MPH a few times. And the distance was off because I compared it to my buddy’s voice caddy and he used his range finder as well to verify.

Batter Life Makes A Quadruple Bogey Seem Desireable

Battery is advertised to last 4+ hours. I have not found this to be true at all. Taking it on the course fully charged and the battery was dead after 2 holes. On the range, the time was around 30 minutes before the battery light started flashing. I tried to return it, but was told that due to a scratch on the screen that it wasn't possible. Two thumbs down!

Nice, Small, Affordable Launch Monitor

Saw this recently at Dick's and did an impulse purchase. I already have a Rapsodo MLM but I don't like having to use my phone to use it. Right now I am not sure of the accuracy of the Shot Scope. I know for a fact that I hit my 7 iron 140-145 yards but the Shot Scope is showing 80 to 90 yards. I don't know if it is the way I have it set up or I have a defective model. Plan on contacting Shot Scope for help.

Love This Launch Monitor

I didn’t need anything fancy but that is all that seems to be out there for launch monitors. The Shot Scope LM1 was exactly what I was looking for. It gives me club speed, ball speed, carry distance, total distance along with smash factor. I didn’t know I needed smash factor. This unit helps me dial in the distance of all my clubs which is very helpful on the golf course. The free, no subscription app is great. I can input the clubs in my bag and it gathers/calculates the minimum distance, average distance and longest distance. Just have to remember to change the clubs on the LM1 before you start hitting it. Super easy to upload the data to the app. I highly recommend the LM1 to any golfer looking for simple, easy to read data.
