Terrific Simulator And Launch Monitor

I bought the Approach R50 last month and have been using the Simulator and Launch Monitor both indoors and outdoors. The functionality, ease of use and pertinent data are excellent. I recommend this device for anyone looking to enjoy playing almost any course and also improving their game.

Very Nice Unit But Not For Outdoors.

I bought this for outdoor range use. I loved the built in monitor and found the device to be very accurate. The hit zone for the ball was too restrictive and caused constant fiddling of the ball or device. Wouldn’t be an issue for indoors but too much trouble outdoors when taking a divot. I had to return it.

So Far So Good

So far so good. The accuracy of the unit is excellent. The form factor and materials are excellent. The ease of use for the resident software is good. I wish they made it so you could bring in other softwares and other programs onto the same unit being there's a computer inside anyway. At this price point you would think that they'd have a high-end enough computer to be able to do more than just home tea hero. That's my biggest gripe here. Home tea hero is okay. It is generic in a lot of ways though. I would still recommend this unit as your easy to use home golf setup. My son has been using it every night for a few months and his game has skyrocketed. He's gone from 100 shooter to in the '80s. Thanks for continuing to be a Pioneer Garmin.

Game Changing Launch Monitor

The Approach R50 is my 4th launch monitor. I've purchased the least expensive to a too expensive monitor and this is by far the most bang for the cost. Not needing a computer and having all the metrics I can handle is amazing. One of the things I was looking for was club face data. It has that plus a still or video of the club face at impact. And all this without paying a subscription fee! I did pay for a year's subscription for Home Tee Hero because it has my home golf course in it's 43,000 courses. I was really excited, but found that the depiction of the course is pretty inaccurate when it comes to hills and valleys. They are way overblown. Overall though I totally recommend this launch monitor

Disappointed

I like the R50 but my first unit went bad, they sent me a refurbished one and the yardage is off really bad. I’ve tried all the tricks I learned setting up the first one but no luck. I don’t understand why a 5k unit can’t get the yard correct!

Great Features!

I’ve had the R50 for about a month and I love it. It took a little while to get used to all the features that it offers, but they were easy to understand. The 42,000 courses are amazing .

My R50 Review After A Month Of Having It

I have had my R50 for almost a month already and I love it, it is all what I has looking for. The data is amazing and comes in handy for me and how I can improve my game. I like the ability to connect to other software like GS Pro, I have not been able to because I still need a computer for it but I know once I get one, it will open my game up to all different types of fun. I would love some more features in practice and I think it would make it even better.

Best All In One Solution!

The club and ball data is great. The enhanced courses are very nice looking on Home Tee Hero. The subscription is very reasonable. It’s 95% there, they just need to fix the distances a bit. I had to mess with the humidity and elevation settings to get my clubs to read right but that was a relatively easy fix. Overall, I am very happy and glad I went with this product!!

I really appreciate the fact that the instrument works right out of the box! The video gallery answer a multitude of questions. This is so much better than their competition, who send you a monitor with little if any direction. I am not completely satisfied with the accuracy of the function s however it does serve as a benchmark to work with.

The Launch Monitor Solution I Needed…

I have a hitting bay on the side of the house and I have had several launch monitors over the years and none quite fit my needs perfectly. First I bought the Rapsodo MLM and found it to be unreliable and inaccurate. Then I got the SC4, which worked well at the range, but it didn’t work well as a golf sim with E6 Connect. Then I got the Flightscope Mevo+ with the full suite of upgrades. This was an amazing piece of equipment. Serious, club-fitter level data. It worked well with E6Connect and was extremely accurate, but it was a pain to set it up, connect it to my iPad, make sure it’s aligned properly, get E6 running… I didn’t mind all these steps, but my wife refused to even try to do all this on her own. She wanted a launch monitor/golf sim that she could just plop down in the cage, turn it on and start hitting without a bunch of extra steps in between. The Garmin R50 does exactly that. We plop it down turn it on, pick a course and start swinging. No special balls, no PC required, no iPad connection issues, no cords. The Home Tee Hero simulator works great and there’s like 40,000 courses available, which is wild. The touchscreen and the sim software are very quick and responsive. The data seems pretty darn accurate when compared to all the data I have from the Flightscope Mevo. It’s a little bulky to tote around to the driving range or use on course, but you could do it. If you’re looking for something that provides ball and club data and doesn’t need a PC or IPad to run, the Garmin R50 is it.

Fantastic Unit!

Great product. Super easy to use. Fantastic selection of courses with Home Tee Hero. I have a couple of minor gripes/wish list items for future updates: 1) I wish i could interact with GSPRO without needing to use a computer at all. 2) adjustable mulligan timer - timer is just too quick for my guests using the machine. 3) gender and tee assignment in my profile, so I don't have to assign it every time I start a round. 4) when playing with a left-handed player, have them go last on a hole and then start the next hole to minimize the number of times to move the r50 during a round.
