I was debating between the 3L and the 1L sidekick Yeti hopper backpack, and I’m glad I went with the 3L. It is the perfect size to hold anything you want to keep dry or hold a decent size snack bag. I was able to put my phone, my car keys and a tall can of suntan spray in the 3L and still close it. There was even room for a few more small items if I wanted, like Chapstick or a bottle opener, or even another cell phone. I would suspect the 1L Sidekick bag is probably only big enough to hold a cell phone and a set of keys. Also the 3L would allow you to hold a decent size snack in it without crushing all your potato chips. For anyone contemplating between the 1L and the 3L, definitely go with the 3L you won’t be disappointed. You can always put less things in it, but with the 1L, you won’t be able to cram much in it and still be able to close it so it is water tight. By the way, I was able to test the "water tight" feature because I went to hose the backpack down, forgetting I had my cell phone and keys in the Sidekick and they were dry as can be! It's an awesome addition and a "must have" in my opinion for any backpack Yeti cooler. Easily attaches to the loops on front. Easy to put on and take off for cleaning.
